QUEER DANCE PARTY
is proud to present a benefit for WRAP: House Keys not Handcuffs.
WRAP is a coalition of 9 organizations based in California, Colorado and Oregon. WRAP was created out of a desire to raise local organizing around homeless and poor people's rights to a larger scale. Currently, WRAP is working on the Homeless Bill of Rights and the Without Housing campaigns.
The Homeless Bill of Rights is a fight against the criminalization of homelessness and includes the piece of legislation, the #Right2Rest, written by currently and formerly homeless folks and introduced in three states last year. The Homeless Bill of Rights campaign and the Right to Rest Act fights the logic that poor people sitting, sleeping on the street, sleeping in a vehicle and sharing food on the street are punishable acts. Instead, WRAP challenges that policing these activities is a clear reiteration of the racist, classist, ablest, transmisogynist and violent values that the police always serve to protect.
By fighting these policing strategies, the Homeless Bill of Rights demands that poor and homeless people have the right to these life-affirming practices, their self-determination and their liberation.
Without Housing is a fight on the federal level to restore affordable housing across the country. Without Housing links the creation of contemporary homelessness to the cuts of affordable housing and the neoliberal policies that try to privatize all parts of our existence. In conjunction with the Homeless Bill of Rights, the Without Housing campaign explains that "Nothing solves homelessness like a home"

***Ships In The Night is a RADICAL QUEER dance party - always a benefit. We prioritize and strive to make the space accessible to queers, women, trans* people, and people of color and highlight their talent as DJ's and performers. Since 2006, Ships has served as a community fundraiser and place for activist and social justice minded queers of all genders to sweat out the worries of the day
