This artist talk will feature a book presentation by editor, Lasse Lau and contributor, Flo Maak. Flo Maak and Lasse Lau are currently artists in residence at Pro Arts and will open their exhibition “Technologies of the Kitchen” at the gallery on Friday, February 3.
Lau’s book “Queer Geographies” explores the possibilities of queer identities lived beyond heteronormativity, uncovering how gender and sexuality are shaped differently by the landscapes of cities and examining how we can shape and form the city ourselves.
Lasse Lau has organized workshops on queer geography at three very different cities located at the sea — Beirut (Lebanon), Tijuana (Mexico) and Copenhagen (Denmark). Most of the contributions to the book have been produced during those workshops, capturing queer experiences outside the hegemonic Anglo-Saxon narrow definitions and experiences.
During the evening the two artists will present pieces from the book and discuss them in relation to their individual works and their upcoming show at Pro Arts.
